About Us

Since 1989 His Love In Action School for the Deaf has been educating hearing impaired children in Tegucigalpa, the capital city of Honduras. From humble beginnings in a one room building with 30 students, the school has grown into a student body of over 60, meeting in a rented fourteen room building in downtown Tegucigalpa.

For twenty years we have been providing quality education to the deaf children and young people. Our school program consist of:

  • Sign language classes
  • Early Intervention program
  • Writing skills, and lip-reading techniques as communication tools
  • Speech Therapy
  • Hearing aids for those who can benefit from them
  • Bible training
  • Cottage Industry jobs and Vocational training in Carpentry, Welding, Sewing, Computer Operations, Home Economics, Upholstery, hairdressing, and Arts and Crafts.

Social services to our students includes:

  • Dental and Medical clinic
  • Support Groups for parents and caretakers
  • A hot meal each school day
  • Uniforms and transportation money
  • Building a one room house for the most needy students with the participation of Missionary Teams.

More than 3000 students have passed through our school. Many of them are now attending High School and is their goal to continue their education and attend University. His Love In action Deaf School has made a great impact in the lives of thousands of deaf people in Honduras, as well as in the overall education system of this country. Many teachers have taken sign language classes at the school and continued their education a the University, becoming licensed interpreters for the deaf. We are also seeing that those who have been trained at the school are now working as interpreters, school teachers, or signing the Sunday Mass on TV.

We also helped the Association for the Deaf by meeting at our school for a few years. Through our work with the deaf for over 20 years, there is now an awareness of the need to learn sign language among the teachers, parents and the general population.

As a non-profit organization, we have been able to provide all these services to our students, thanks to the contributions of faithful individuals, as well as some churches in the United States, as well as the participation of some Honduran organization that have provided a one-time grant to help us purchase the most needed equipment’s and materials for the vocational classes. The participation of our faithful contributors have enabled us to educate these precious children and young people of Honduras.

When we moved to our present location in downtown Tegucigalpa, we were thrilled at the space, the location and the opportunity to increase our enrollment. We could serve more deaf children and young adults than ever before! We have been renting for quite sometime. However, as the students’ enrollment grew, we were faced with a the dilemma of not having the space to accept more than 65 students. We work at our maximum capacity, so we are now working on building a new facility!
